Xu Rongzhe's Notes on Sherlock Holmes' Creative Process
"Sherlock Holmes Creative Writing Class" is a writing magic class brought by Xu Rongzhe, a writer who is known as "the most storyteller in Taiwan Province Province after 1970s".

While listening to stories, I learned to write with world famous writers. Teach 18 writing skills quietly through the stories of 10 writers and celebrities. A brief list is as follows for the reference of those in need.

The straight line between two points is the shortest. The reason why children can't write a few words at a time is because children often go straight to the finish line in one breath, and of course they can't write a few words. Turn a corner and take the reader on a "wrong" journey, and the road will turn and automatically become longer.

For example, the story of The Ugly Duckling, or: You suspect that your good friend stole your favorite book. When you tried to catch her, other students jumped out. So everyone helps you celebrate your birthday.

Sometimes we are often attracted by "mistakes", which is the charm of "beautiful mistakes".

The most effective way is to use human curiosity to build a "story hook", and the method of using curiosity to hook up the reader and make him inseparable from you is called "story hook". The easiest way is to throw a strange answer without telling the reader the reasoning process. For example, when Sherlock Holmes first met Watson, he threw a sentence at Watson: "You are Afghan." But I won't tell Watson how to reason. In this way, readers will be firmly attracted, even if it is followed by a boring narrative of thousands of words, it will not affect readers' psychology of satisfying curiosity.

There is a tricky method in writing logical reasoning, that is, the method of "being wise after the event". That is, reasoning backwards from the answer.

For example, the seemingly boring little thing "My eyes are infected with the virus, so I went to see a doctor myself" is written in the way of "being wise after the event". Don't write "My eyes are infected with the virus" at the beginning, because my eyes are infected, the scenery or color I see will be a little different, and because I feel uncomfortable, my mood when I see things will be very different. If I write all the way, the sign of "Guangming Eye Hospital" will finally appear. This is much more interesting to write down.

The characters' reactions include dialogue, action, expression and psychology. It is the most effective way to throw the characters into the conflict and write the different reactions of people with different personalities through an emergency, so that readers can see it with their own eyes through the author's description.

For example, on a day when everything is not going well for you, a friend suddenly pushes out a birthday cake and sings a happy birthday song beside you. This dramatic situation of one low and one high is the easiest to make people cry. There is a saying "Love begets hate". Only strong hatred can produce strong contrast and portray the strongest love.

Five steps to capture inspiration:

1 Read to supplement previous knowledge;

2. Tourism, expanding current knowledge;

3 Always let old knowledge collide with new knowledge;

4 be curious when colliding, just like you can see the spark of generate in the dark;

In the end, of course, try your best to catch the spark, whether you want to use paper and pen or mobile phone.

The end of the article is divided into two types, one is closed and the other is open. Closed gives the standard answer, open does not give the final answer, so that readers can think freely. Of course, the kind that involves readers is better.

There are two kinds of representations, one is external representation and the other is internal representation. Externally, it is the visible dress and physical appearance; Internally, it is invisible psychology, personality, temperament and even dreams.

Whether depicting the outside or the inside, we must add contradictions. Just like the Monkey King, the contradiction between external and internal strongly depicts this most classic and charming novel character.

On the tombstone of the English novelist Green, who was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature for 2 1 times, are engraved the words: "I like the edge of danger: honest thieves, soft-hearted assassins, and atheists who are afraid of the sky."

In real life, we don't want ourselves to be contradictory, which will get us into trouble, but in novels and plays, we hope that the roles are contradictory, so that we can have a good show.

The ending leaves readers room for imagination and always fills them with hope, just like an egg at the end of a movie. Because of hope, readers will come back again and again.

"No coincidence is a book", and people like the story of "coincidence". Just like the above "Three Richard? Parker's story, this is a very powerful move, enough to kill with one move.

The problem is-coincidence is poisonous. If used well, coincidence can kill the enemy, but if used badly, coincidence will kill yourself.

Then how to write coincidence so as not to make people feel that it was deliberately arranged? Teach you a formula, "when things happen, they have happened quietly for some time." Arrange for "people with keys" to appear before trouble occurs. At this time, the reader is completely alert to him. When the master's trouble happens, then the "right" person will appear for the second time and the third time. No one will have an opinion, and no one will think that this matter has been done.

In the most direct way, good coincidences are deliberate, and bad coincidences are unprovoked.

Einstein's best way to tell stories is to tell the invisible things vividly, that is, to turn the abstract into concrete.

To disassemble Einstein's "radio cat", his first step is to turn the "radio" into a "seeing"+"hearing" cat. Then he added "exaggeration", a cat as long as new york to L.A.; And "interactive method", people pull the cat's tail, and the cat will meow back to us. In other words, Einstein's "radio cat" used four elements: vision, hearing, exaggeration and interaction.

First, let's define "imagination". Imagination is the ability to connect two unrelated things! For example, if you say that coke has something to do with hamburgers, that's incredible, because they are related, and people are completely uninterested in their relationship.

For example, Coca-Cola, the Queen of England and Brazilian football star Cristiano Ronaldo are completely irrelevant, but a French newspaper, in order to emphasize the mystery of Coca-Cola's formula, half jokingly said, "There are three unknown secrets in the world, one is the wealth of the Queen of England, the other is the weight of Brazilian football star Cristiano Ronaldo, and the third is the formula of Coca-Cola." 」

Everything is important. As long as you find the links and connect them, your imagination will explode.

What's the difference between a real person and a dummy? How to write a real person?

There is a saying in the west that "what happened only once is equal to never happening".

At first glance, this sentence sounds a bit strange. If you only break one leg in your life, it means you haven't been hit? If you only win the lottery once in your life, it is equal to not winning? It doesn't make any sense!

From a practical point of view, what you said is very reasonable, but "what happened once is equal to what never happened" usually refers to the "character" of the character.

If someone tells you the story of "Washington cut down a cherry tree", you will roll your eyes. The story of honesty has been heard since childhood. But if the other person says to you, "No, on the contrary, I want to tell you a story about a lie." Are you particularly curious?

Obviously it is a story about honesty, but the other party says it is a story about lies. Once the cognition of ordinary people is subverted, it will arouse strong curiosity.

Compared with the ancient moral lesson that honesty is a virtue, the "fake" story of Washington cutting down a cherry tree has brought us more speculative ability.

Just like every old tree will grow new branches and buds, every old story can have a new angle, and from another angle, the story will come back to life.

Ask yourself two questions first.

1. Why did Jia Dao hit people? Because his whole mind was on "pushing" and he didn't look at the road.

Second, why Han Yu, not others? Because Jia Dao's problems can only be solved by a great writer like Han Yu.

That's right. The routine of the story came out-using the protagonist to encounter a difficult problem, and when he was in a daze, he just "bumped into" people, things and things that could help him solve the problem. That is, hit the answer. The same is true when an apple hits Newton's head.

How to write an incredible story in reality, the answer is to detonate the pressure cooker of the characters with "unspeakable secrets"!

"Secrets that can't be told" will put a lot of pressure on the characters. If there is pressure, you must find an outlet to vent it, or it will explode.

In order to relieve the great pressure of nowhere to go, the barber had to dig a hole to bury the secret, and the coachman had to tell the mare about his loss, which was very sad. But it is precisely because of this that people with hidden secrets in their hearts are often very energetic and easy to impress readers with sympathy.

Mystery novelist Agatha? Christie's Murder on the Orient Express provides a perfect example.

The novel captures the first half of a real case, including kidnapping children, killing tickets and the suspect committing suicide. Then it adds its own imagination to fabricate the second half of the story, find out the truth of the matter and complete justice in a unique way!

Give another example. Dumas, a French writer, got creative inspiration from Pico's case, Ctrip's novel The Count of Monte Cristo. Later, this classic work was written by American novelist Steven? King adapted another novel, rita hayworth and the Salvation of Xiao Shanke Prison. The focus of the story shifted from "how to get revenge" to "how to escape from prison".

Finally, the novel was adapted into the movie The Shawshank Redemption, and now it ranks first among the "250 best movies in history" voted by fans.

There is a lot of social information now. After reading it, with my own imagination, it is another wonderful story full of vitality.

Detective cases can usually be condensed into four steps.

I. Observation

Second, reasoning.

Third, induction.

Fourth, knowledge.

If you want to write a good story, you just need to internalize the "four steps of reasoning" into a habit, practice, practice and practice again. Remember what writer Conan Doyle said, "What matters is not IQ, but habit."
