Sichuan University of Light Chemical Technology was formerly the Southwest Branch of East China Institute of Chemical Technology (now East China University of Science and Technology) established in 1965. 1979 was renamed Sichuan Institute of Chemical Technology, and 1983 was renamed Sichuan Institute of Light Chemical Technology.
