Is Echo of Autumn Water an oil painting or a Chinese painting?
Echo of Autumn Colors is a traditional Chinese painting.

Echoes of Autumn Water is one of the Twelve Sections of Water Map painted by Ma Yuan, a famous painter in the Southern Song Dynasty. These twelve paintings are all devoted to water painting. The author's meticulous observation of the water flow, as well as the formal beauty and pen and ink skills created, are amazing.

The painter described the beating of water waves with light and smooth strokes; The irregularly arranged peaks are obviously blown by the wind; Waves like scales, no excitement, no anger; It is as small as water and sky, as if a cool breeze swept across the open water, which is refreshing.

Artistic characteristics of water map;

1 and line

Ma Yuan introduced vigorous and sharp landscape lines in Water Map, which showed the strong beauty of water. For example, "The Yangtze River Boundless" has vigorous lines, showing rows of surging water waves with thick and powerful lines; The lines in Yun Sheng Hai are extremely powerful, which is different from the previous generation. In terms of performance, it is also more arbitrary than the previous generation. For example, "Up the Yellow River", this painting is almost freehand; "Shu Yunlang Volume" uses war strokes to make ripples, while Tiger Claw uses dotted lines.

2. Light and shadow

Ma Yuan described the subtle feeling of light and shadow in Lake Light and Autumn Water. Due to the floating of clouds, part of the sunlight is temporarily blocked, leaving the shadow of clouds moving on the water. The water is black, and part of it shines under the sunlight. The contrast between light and dark adds more vitality to the sparkling water surface.
