What does A Passage to India express?
A Passage to India (1924) is the author's last and most important novel. The author extends the concept of "connection" to different nationalities. Mrs Moore and Miss Quest went to India to visit their son and fiance. During a visit to a cave, Quest seemed to feel that someone insulted her in a dark cave, which led to a dispute, and the victim, Muslim doctor Azis, was wronged. The author believes that in India, there is a contradiction between the British ruler and the ruled, which makes a "gap" between the two peoples. The author believes that the reason why the British rulers are so indifferent but complacent is entirely the responsibility of the British secondary education system. Finally, the novel symbolically describes the grand ceremony of Hindu celebration of the birth of cupid.
