Jiangling refers to the place name, jiangling county, which is located about 30 kilometers southeast of Jingzhou City, Hubei Province, and is under the jurisdiction of Jingzhou City, Hubei Province.
Jiangling, also known as Jingzhou, is one of the first historical and cultural cities in China. Now it is the resident of Jingzhou District People's Government in Jingzhou City, located in the south of central Hubei Province, in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, in the west of Jianghan Plain, bordering the Yangtze River in the south, connecting Hanshui River in the north, controlling Bashu in the west and Hunan and Guangdong in Nantong, which was called "the thoroughfare of seven provinces" in ancient times. The historical position of Jiangling City is very important. It is the capital of Chu in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, and the largest and most prosperous metropolis in southern China. The political, economic and cultural center of Chu in its heyday has always been in Jiangling. During the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, it was as famous as Jiankang (now Nanjing) ruled by Yangzhou at that time, and was known as "Jiangzuo Town, better than Jingyang".
Jiangling's predecessor was Ying, the capital of Chu State. From the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period to the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms, 34 emperors successively established their capitals here, which lasted 5 15 years. Since the Han Dynasty, Jiangling City has existed for a long time as the ruling place of Jingzhou, so it is often called Jiangling with "Jingzhou".
Jiangling, now known as Jingzhou City, is located in the south-central part of Hubei Province, a prefecture-level city, a national historical and cultural city and a central city in Jianghan Plain. Since the Five Dynasties, the ruling center of the Central Plains Dynasty has been between Henan and Shaanxi, with Jiangling controlling Bashu in the west, Han Xiang in the north, rivers and lakes in the front and wuyue in the arm. It is the hub of communication between the Central Plains and Lingnan, and is known as the "Southeast Town" and "Metropolis". Many regimes whose capitals are in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River have established their capitals here. From the Spring and Autumn Period to the Five Dynasties, there were ten regimes with capitals, among which Chu was a big country, and the Eastern Jin and Southern Dynasties all owned half of the southern country. Therefore, Jiangling has a higher status as an ancient capital, second only to the "seven ancient capitals" and is the capital of Jingchu.
