Gutierrez's first job was selling cereal on a truck in Mexico City and selling a frozen cereal to a small grocery store. After working for 8 years, he was promoted to the general manager of Kellogg's Mexico branch.
1April, 1999, became CEO of Kellogg company.
In April 2000, he was appointed President of Kellogg Company.
In June 2004, he was nominated by President Bush as the 35th Secretary of Commerce of the United States.
