The story happened in the early Republic of China. Liao Sicheng (Liu Xiaofeng) and Fang Tianyi (Ruoyun Zhang) are adopted sons of Gu Hansen, a wealthy businessman. They grew up with Gu Hansen's own daughter Gu Ting (Wu Ting), and their friendship is very deep. After graduating from Whampoa Military Academy, Liao Sicheng went to Japan for further study.
