Go to sea once or twice a year, mainly for scientific research in the East China Sea and the Pacific Ocean. With the development of China's polar cause, two scientific research vessels, Xiang Yanghong and Polar, were eliminated.

1992, Yuan was transferred to the only polar research ship in China and began polar exploration.

1994 served as the trainee captain in June. In June+10/October, 5438, Yuan, as the trainee captain of the "Snow Dragon", participated in the first 1 1 Antarctic expedition in China. Up to now, he has ridden the Snow Dragon for more than ten times in the Arctic and Antarctic regions, and arranged China's third scientific expedition to the Arctic as the team leader, successfully completing the task.

In the meantime, it achieved many firsts in the history of China's polar scientific research: the discovery of an anchorage named after Shantou Mountain in Antarctica ended the history that China people had no anchorage at Zhongshan Station in Antarctica for ten years; It opened the route for China's expedition to the Arctic, setting a record for China's scientific research ship at the highest latitude in the Arctic. The success of many scientific research projects, such as China Antarctic inland ice sheet survey, is closely related to Yuan's work performance. As a senior captain with modern scientific literacy, Yuan took the improved management level as a new focus and put forward a set of single ship management system, which laid a solid foundation for the sustainable development of scientific investigation. He has successively won the honorary titles of national advanced worker and top ten outstanding young people in Shanghai.
