Painting is expensive to write about his life, which means that it is good to be shaped like a spirit.
It means that the most important thing in painting is sketching (observing and studying painting in kind), if only the form and charm can be realistic.

Sketching is a painter's daily work. Flower and bird painters should carefully observe flowers, birds, insects and fish. After pondering over the details, we should always pay attention to the changes and different characteristics of objects, try to figure out their habits, grasp the most touching parts, make choices, boldly create, and express their characteristics with pen and ink, so as to achieve "painting thousands of insects, vivid as birds."

Sketch is a Chinese vocabulary, and pinyin is xiě shēng. A painting method that directly depicts objects or landscapes; Second, it refers to the paintings made by sketches; Three-fingered portrait; Four-finger writing business. It refers to writing an object alive.

Sketch refers to the sketch of scenery, objects and elements from nature. Outdoor sketching can also be done in the studio, but sketching is different from still life. In still life, even an inanimate object will still show its natural state. Sketching and other exercises, such as life painting, painting from antiques or actors and apartments, are often part of the artist's classroom exercises. Sketch works can be used not only as works of art, but also as notes or research for further painting in the studio.

The old man Baishi often emphasizes the importance of sketching, because sketching can carefully observe the objects depicted. The old man Baishi wrote in the poem "Grass":

When painting, you should first see what is in your chest, and then write with spirit. Therefore, it is ok to take a bamboo shadow by candlelight, and Da Di can taste the flavor of Qing Xiang and make it disappear forever. The craftsmen were so absorbed in the forgeries of their predecessors that when they opened their mouths, they said that the painting was not what they saw, and the shape was not true, let alone not being expressive. Shame on us.

In the picture again:

Painting is expensive to write about his life, and it is good to look like it!

The old man's sketching skills are deep, so his works have a high sense of reality.

After initially absorbing and mastering the skills of pen and ink, the old man Baishi has been paying attention to "imitating nature"-sketching all his life in order not to be trapped by playing with pen and ink and formalism and to obtain artistic creation conditions.

After forty, he traveled five times and traveled half of China. These famous mountains and rivers of the motherland have broadened his horizons. At the same time, he raised fish, planted flowers and trees at home, and made an in-depth observation on the appearance and expression of flowers, birds, insects and fish.

In-depth observation of objective reality is the realistic basis of his bold processing and creation, so by the age of forty or fifty, the style of his works has changed a lot. At this time, the old man's works are almost mature.

In the process of creation, the attitude of the old man Baishi is very serious, and each stroke has an objective basis, which is essentially different from simply playing with pen and ink. In his own biography, he once said:

Portraits of thousands of insects, vivid hundreds of birds. Only the dragon in the scale worm has never seen it, so I dare not be bold.

This just shows that the old people learn painting from the observation of objective things, and laid the foundation of true description in their creation. This is one of the fundamental reasons for his outstanding artistic achievements.

First, flowers, birds and cordyceps

The old man Baishi has a deep foundation in painting flowers, birds, insects and fish. He likes sketching mountain flowers, static grass, bugs and small fish since he was a child. As a painter after the age of 20, painting scores and stickers can no longer meet the needs, so we must create sketches of flowers, birds, insects and fish. After "going out five times and returning five times", he planted dozens of pear trees, plum trees, loquat trees and peach trees at home, and the yard was covered with wild flowers and weeds, which became the objects of his observation and sketching.

Sketch is closely related to creation. Without sketch, you can't create. The old man Baishi often emphasizes that sketching is the routine work of painters. Flower and bird painters should carefully observe flowers, birds, insects and fish. After pondering over the details, we should always pay attention to the changes and different characteristics of objects, try to figure out their habits, grasp the most moving parts, boldly create, and express their characteristics with pen and ink, so as to achieve "conveying the spirit with insects and birds."

Qi Baishi often emphasizes the importance of sketching in his paintings: "This insect must sketch things from scratch, not only in form, but also with famous artists." "The painter has always said that painters don't draw hands. I said that it is not easy to draw insect feet. Unless you catch insects and sketch, there can be no such works." He once wrote in the title of Spider: "Xin You got this spider on the Xiangfang Bridge on April 16th. I pricked her waist with silk thread, pricked her with a needle and drew it."

Qi Baishi often said: "It would be nice to be able to paint and write about his life, and to resemble each other in form and spirit!" "He also often asks students to sketch more. He once said to Hu Paddle, "You should not only learn from my fur, but also study and sketch more by yourself." "You draw a chicken, the problem is that there is no time to sketch. I spend much more time observing and studying chickens than painting them, so I can be a god. "

Once, when he saw Lou Shibai draw a mantis, he asked him, "Have you counted the thin ribs on the grasshopper's wings? Have you carefully looked at the big thorn on the locust arm? " "Mantis preys on insects by the thorn on his arm, and your big thorn is not the place. It can't catch bugs, but it will stab its own forearm. " It can be seen that he pays great attention to the subtle observation of the posture and structure of grass insects, so he can show it incisively and vividly, especially in the depiction of insects' whiskers, wings and claws.

Qi Baishi once said: "It would be nice to paint and write about his life, and to be able to resemble each other in form and spirit!" I will never draw anything I have never seen before. "Flower and bird painting, to sketch in life, to understand human physics, to be good at observing life, analyzing life and experiencing life.

In order to make the students' flower-and-bird paintings more vivid and interesting, Mr. Zou led the students of Grade 20 Calligraphy Department to set up a sketch course on campus. The students walked into the beautiful campus with drawing boards, stools and pen and ink, and felt the flowers, grass, trees, water and stones of nature, and recorded these beautiful pictures under the brush.

Teacher Zou emphasized that sketching should not only be based on the experience of predecessors, but more importantly, it should be based on nature and life. The book Catalogue of Ancient Paintings of Sheikh in Nanqi puts forward: "There are six ways to paint, one is vivid, the other is to use a pen, the third is to use pictograms, the fourth is to follow the class color, the fifth is to operate in the business position, and the sixth is to transfer." Among them, the 345 method is particularly important for sketch, which basically summarizes three important links of Chinese painting sketch. At the same time, sketch is not a simple description of the superficial phenomenon of the object, but a painter's profound observation of the times, nationalities, society and nature. It is a kind of consciousness, a kind of spirit and feelings condensed in the painter's heart, which is expressed by pen and ink.

The truth of art comes from the truth of life, and the beauty of art comes from the beauty of life, so does the creation of flower-and-bird paintings. Only by going deep into life and feeling the nature for a long time can we create works of art with the flavor of life and the spirit of the times, and we can also create good works that the masses like.

Flower and bird painters must observe and experience deeply and carefully if they want to go deep into real natural life. We can't just take a cursory look and ignore it without analysis and research. Before sketching, they should study and analyze the natural flowers and trees they draw. Looking for the beauty of rhythm, regularity and decoration from the dense, lush and complicated; Looking for the organic combination of flowers, trees and water stones; Looking for the beauty of harmony in the colorful, gorgeous and intense. A flower-and-bird painter, in order to make his works have new ideas, new artistic conception, new techniques and beautiful taste, not only should he go deep into natural life, but more importantly, he should go deep into social life, understand the humanistic feelings of the people and social practice, and strive to profoundly grasp the new essence of social life from the ideological and emotional aspects.

Through this sketch class, students have enhanced their intuitive perception of nature, further deepened their understanding of the changes and charm of pen and ink, learned knowledge that is difficult to learn in class, improved the professional level of flower-and-bird sketch, and laid a solid foundation for future study and creation.
