Tong Wei (Huang Haibing), a Shanghai youth, and Xiao Jiansheng (Wang Zhihua), the owner of Jiansheng Hardware Firm, were arrested by the Japanese Gendarmerie on suspicion of assassinating the Japanese and Ikujiro. Xiao Jiansheng's identity was exposed, and he advised Tong Wei to join the New Fourth Army in the Soviet area after he was released from prison, and to join the Anti-Japanese War. Tong Wei gave a pocket watch and a bloody book to a man named Zhou Li. Later, Tong Wei joined the Shanghai underground party to fight Japanese spies. Because of the need of the task, his fiancee Chen Yuhong had a misunderstanding. Later, as the task went on, they cleared up their differences, but their identities were exposed. In order to sail smoothly to the Soviet area under the leadership of Zhou Li, a transport ship loaded with seamless steel pipes and military supplies gave its life.
