The first-class doctoral program in materials science and engineering of Lanzhou University of Technology was approved by the 22nd meeting of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee in June 2006. Among them, two disciplines of material processing engineering attached to the first-class doctoral program,1June 1998, were awarded doctoral degrees, and two disciplines of material science were awarded doctoral degrees in 2003.
From June, 5438 to October, 2008, with the approval of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee, on the basis of the original three two disciplines, two disciplines of advanced materials and preparation technology were independently added. At present, there are four two disciplines under the first-level discipline doctoral program, namely, material physics and chemistry, material science, material processing engineering, advanced materials and preparation technology.
The research on the first-level discipline of materials science and engineering in Lanzhou University of Technology focuses on the development of characteristic and superior resources of non-ferrous metals and the development needs of materials industry in Gansu Province, highlighting the characteristics of research and development and deep processing of new non-ferrous metals and the development characteristics of disciplines serving the local economy. The main research directions are: deformation and fracture of materials, new energy materials, semi-solid processing and surface modification of light metals, amorphous and nanocrystalline materials, advanced welding technology and equipment of materials and advanced forming technology of materials.
