Do you think university teachers should call the roll?
Some people say that a teacher keeps the students' names, just like a mistress threatening people with her children. But I think it is necessary to call the roll. It is fair for us students who are not absent from class, late or leave early. In some of my classes, quite a few students only show up at roll call. They skipped class after roll call, copied their homework, didn't answer questions, and didn't participate in classroom activities. Their final grades were even higher than those of our diligent classmates. The teacher didn't disclose the details of everyone's usual grades at all. I don't believe that all these students have gone to participate in meaningful practical activities. A considerable number of them just sleep, play games and go shopping. So I think the roll call must exist, and it must be a fancy roll call. It is a matter of course that absenteeism will be deducted and make-up exams will fail. How has it become a "bitter day" now?
