Suzhou University of Science and Technology is located in Suzhou, a famous historical and cultural city known as "paradise on earth". It was formed by the merger of the former Suzhou Institute of Urban Construction and Environmental Protection and the former Suzhou Railway Teachers College. It is a full-time college with the coordinated development of engineering, science, literature and management.

Suzhou Institute of Science and Technology, the predecessor of the school, was formed by the merger of Suzhou Institute of Urban Construction and Environmental Protection and Suzhou Railway Teachers College, and was established in September 20001year. The former Suzhou Institute of Urban Construction and Environmental Protection was established in 1983 directly under the Ministry of Construction (the former Suzhou Institute of Architecture and Engineering was established in 1953). The former Suzhou Railway Teachers College is a public institution directly under the Ministry of Railways.
