Due to historical reasons, the school plays an important role in the marine field. It has been designated as a research institution of marine biology by the government's Marine Biology 2 1 project, and as a "training institution of marine cutting-edge technical talents" by the local innovative enterprises (NURI). As a "Korean marine fishery expert", FAO has newly established an international organization "FAO World Fisheries University" to train world aquatic leaders at Bak Kyung University.
