1982 graduated from the chemistry department of Wuhan university with a bachelor's degree, 1992 graduated from the chemistry department of Stanford university with a doctorate. 1992- 1994 did postdoctoral research in the chemistry department of Stanford university. 1994- 1999 was an assistant professor at Penn State University, 1999-2003 was an associate professor at Penn State University, and has been a professor at Penn State University since September 2003. He has published more than 90 articles, 42 patents and patent applications, and has been invited to speak at international conferences many times (official invited speech: 2 10, other invited speeches: 75).
