Smart agriculture takes information and knowledge as the core elements, and through the deep integration of modern information technologies such as Internet, Internet of Things, big data, cloud computing and artificial intelligence with agriculture, it realizes the new agricultural production mode of agricultural information perception, quantitative decision-making, intelligent control, accurate input and personalized service, which is the advanced stage of agricultural informatization from digitalization to networking to intelligent development.

The College of Horticulture of Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University was established in 1936. The college consists of five teaching departments, namely, Horticulture Department, Tea Department, Intelligent Agriculture Department of Facility Agricultural Science and Engineering (joint office), Teaching and Research Section of Genetics and Breeding, and Institute of Horticultural Plant Bioengineering. Undergraduate majors include horticulture, tea science, facility agriculture science and engineering, and intelligent agriculture. Starting from 20 16, Yan Jiaxian's tea science innovation class was opened.

There is a post-doctoral research mobile station in horticulture, a doctoral and master's degree authorization point in horticulture, covering five two disciplines, including fruit tree science, tea science, vegetable science, flowers and gardens, facility agriculture science and engineering, and two professional master's fields (agricultural extension horticulture and facility agriculture)-from 2018, and the field of agriculture and seed industry (gardening direction) has been adjusted and set up.

The first-class discipline of horticulture is a provincial key discipline and a provincial key characteristic discipline. At present, there are research platforms such as Fujian subtropical fruit tree and characteristic economic crop germplasm resources sharing platform, Fujian Fujian-Taiwan fruit tree germplasm test-tube seedling bank, the first batch of key laboratories of horticultural plant genetics and breeding in Fujian Province, the key laboratory of tea science in Fujian Province, and the key strategic alliance of technological innovation in southern subtropical fruit tree industry in Fujian Province.

Advantages of the College include horticultural plant biotechnology (cell engineering, genomics, molecular biology) and germplasm innovation, high-quality production technology and quality control mechanism, tea processing and processing equipment innovation, tea economic and cultural research, etc., and its comprehensive strength ranks in the forefront of this discipline in China.
