The Department of Materials Science and Technology of Northeastern University was established in 1950, which is one of the earliest disciplines of metal materials in China. Postgraduate training began in 1962, and the first batch of master's degree authorized disciplines of metal materials specialty was approved in 198 1, and the doctoral degree authorized disciplines were approved in 1990. 1994 and 1995 were successively rated as key disciplines of the Ministry of Metallurgy and Liaoning Province. 1998 the first-class discipline of materials science and engineering was approved as the first-class authorized discipline of doctoral degree, and the postdoctoral mobile station was established in the same year.
