Hohai University originated from Hohai Engineering College founded by Zhang Jian, a famous educator and industrialist in modern times, in 19 15. 1960 hohai university was recognized as a national key university by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. 1985, the traditional school name "Hohai University" was restored, and Comrade Deng Xiaoping personally wrote the school name.
