The School of Biology of Hunan University was established in June, 200010. It was formed by the merger of the Institute of Life Science and Technology, which was established in June, 200010, and the Biomedical Engineering Center, which was established in 2005. Tan Weihong, the first president, is an academician of China Academy of Sciences. He is currently a professor at Hunan University and director of the State Key Laboratory of Chemical Biosensing and Metrology. The college has a good discipline foundation in biology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering and other disciplines. It has a good research foundation in nano-biology, molecular diagnostics, nano-medicine, plant cell and molecular biology, bioenergy, tissue engineering and biomaterials, neurobiology and so on.
