The school's predecessor can be traced back to 1908, which was founded by Zhejiang government-run two-level normal school. It is one of the earliest six higher normal schools in China. 65438-0978 Hangzhou Normal University was established with the approval of the State Council. Around 2000, Hangzhou Institute of Education and Hangzhou Medical College merged one after another. In 2007, the school was renamed Hangzhou Normal University.
