Taiyuan University of Science and Technology is a public undergraduate college of science and engineering, located in Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. Its predecessor was Shanxi Machinery Manufacturing Industry School, which was founded in 1952. 1960 was renamed Taiyuan institute of heavy machinery, and in 2004 it was renamed Taiyuan university of science and technology.

According to the data of the Ministry of Education, this school was selected into the basic capacity building project of universities in central and western China (Xiao 2 1 1) and the "Hundred Schools Project" in China.
