In the United States, 4 19297 people participated in this study. During the monitoring of 1 17 days, 0.52% of the participants (2 16 1 person) received the notice of arrhythmia. Insiders were given ECG patches to further monitor heart problems, but many of them did not come back. Among the 450 subjects who returned to the patch and provided analyzable data, the total incidence of atrial fibrillation in subjects over 65 years old was 34% and 35%. Among those patients who read irregularly and recovered plaque, 84% of the follow-up notice was confirmed as atrial fibrillation.
The positive predictive values of atrial fibrillation for ECG and subsequent irregular pulse notification were 0.84(95%CI, 0.76 ~ 0.92) and 0.7 1(97.5%CI, 0.69 ~ 0.74), respectively. Electrocardiogram (ECG) was used to observe atrial fibrillation, and then irregular speed record was observed. Of the 1376 participants who returned to the 90-day survey, 57% contacted health care providers outside the study. There is no serious adverse events report related to the application. According to the researchers, the number of warnings in the study is very small, which indicates that the device will not send too many error notifications to healthy people wearing watches.
In some cases, the atrial fibrillation detected by Apple Watch is still in the early stage of development, while the frequency of atrial fibrillation not detected by patch is very high, which is more common among young participants. This study finally confirmed that "Apple Watch" can detect atrial fibrillation. Dr mintu turakhia, a cardiologist at Stanford University and co-author of the study, said that the experiment was generally successful, especially in determining how many people would receive heart-related notifications from Apple Watch, as well as patients, doctors and insurance companies. The overall benefit of this study shows the potential of large-scale research, which uses various technologies to remotely monitor patients without on-site visits. Since 20 17, we have been relying on the standard heart rate sensor instead of the new "Apple Watch" mode to obtain ECG readings.
