Jingdezhen Ceramic University is the only multi-disciplinary undergraduate college in China that features ceramics. It used to belong to the former Ministry of Light Industry, and in 1998 it was transferred to the central and local construction, which was mainly managed by Jiangxi Province.

It is one of the 31 independent undergraduate art colleges in China, and also one of the first batch of colleges and universities in China that independently recruit art undergraduates and are eligible to recruit international students who enjoy China government scholarships to pursue master's and bachelor's degrees.

The school's predecessor was China Ceramic School founded by 19 10, and Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute was established by 1958. 1984, the school became a master's degree awarding unit. 20 13 was added as a doctoral degree awarding unit by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee in July. The school is located in Jingdezhen, the Millennium porcelain capital. On March 20 16, it was renamed Jingdezhen Ceramic University.

As of March 20 16, the school has three campuses, namely Xinchang, Yan Tao College and Huxiang, covering an area of more than 1600 mu, with 8 teaching branches (departments), 46 undergraduate majors, 13 master's degree authorization points and 2 doctoral degree authorization points. There are 802 full-time teachers, enrolling students for the whole country, and there are more than 9000 full-time students (including independent colleges) 1 100, including more than graduate students, 23 doctoral students and nearly 100 international students.
