EI is a global database, which mainly contains important documents in the field of engineering technology, including periodicals and conference documents, as well as some scientific reports and monographs. There are three types of EI collections: EI core collections, non-core collections (Pageone collections) and conference papers.

EI is called the global core and recognized by every country. In China, some units reward 3,000 to 8,000 yuan for publishing an EI retrieval paper. Generally used for: evaluation of masters, doctors, associate professors and professors. After the papers published by the author in international conferences or magazines are included in EI, some domestic authorities can issue EI inclusion certificates to the author.

The engineering index is published in print (periodical), electronic (tape) and microfilm. EI has selected more than 3,500 periodicals in 15 languages and more than 3,500 conference proceedings, scientific reports, standards, books and other publications in dozens of countries and regions around the world. Ei Compendex is the earliest source of engineering abstracts in the world. The index information of 500,000 abstracts added to Ei Compendex database every year comes from 565,438+000 engineering journals, conference collections and technical reports. The documents collected by Ei Compendex cover all engineering fields, of which about 22% are conference documents and 90% are in English. Ei Company began to collect China periodicals from 1992. 1998 Ei Set up Ei China Mirror Station in Tsinghua University Library. Before 2009, EI divided its collected papers into two grades.
