In terms of infrastructure, the college has computer teaching laboratory (with more than 800 computers), analog electronic technology laboratory, digital electronic technology laboratory, high frequency electronic technology laboratory, microcomputer principle and interface laboratory, single chip microcomputer principle and application laboratory, computer composition principle laboratory, electronic information technology comprehensive laboratory, electronic skill training laboratory and so on. These laboratories are open to students, which provides sufficient guarantee for the cultivation of students' practical ability and innovation ability.
In terms of scientific research, the college has Shaanxi Computer Software Engineering Research Center, Northwest University Computer Software Development Center, Software Engineering Research Institute, Visualization Technology Research Institute, Microelectronics Technology Research Institute, Automatic Identification Research Institute, Virtual Instrument Technology Research Institute, Embedded Engineering Center and other scientific research institutions. Our institute has undertaken many national scientific research projects such as the Eighth Five-Year Plan, the Ninth Five-Year Plan, the Tenth Five-Year Plan and the National Natural Science Foundation, and has carried out fruitful work in the fields of computer software theory, image and visualization technology, thin film sensitive materials and broadband semiconductor materials and devices, internet technology, image and intelligent information processing, embedded system and application-specific integrated circuit design, semiconductor materials and devices, ic design and so on. At the same time, the college undertakes more than 30 national, provincial and school-level teaching and research projects, undertakes national excellent courses 1, won more than 20 outstanding teaching achievement awards in Shaanxi Province and schools, and published more than 10 influential textbooks in China.
School of Information Science and Technology of Northwest University adjusted its undergraduate majors in 2009, and now it has three undergraduate majors, namely: Computer Science and Technology (Computer Department), Electrical Engineering (Electronic Department) and Software Engineering (Software College).
