How did Yang Lian, the remonstrator of the Ming Dynasty, write his last words?
In the third section, Yang Lian Yang Lian (1572— 1625) was born in Yingshan, Huguang (now Hubei). He devoted his whole life to three cases, namely "jump", "red pill" and "moving the palace", in order to stop Wei Zhongxian, give his precious life and save the chaotic political situation. Yang Lian's youth is a period when Lin Dong is in the ascendant. He admired Gu Xiancheng and others for taking the world as their responsibility, not afraid of power, and daring to discuss the integrity of state affairs. Every time Lin Dong gives a lecture, he must try his best to get to Wuxi to discuss the theory of sex and the way of governing the country by business with his gentlemen. Like each other, they gradually became the rising stars of Lindong Party. In the thirty-fifth year of Wanli (1607), Yang Lian was admitted as a scholar and became the magistrate of Changshu County. In order to truly understand the local people's feelings, he often went deep into the fields and every household and visited incognito, "knowing his illness like the back of his hand." (1) is deeply supported by the local people. Later, it was promoted to the Ministry of Housing because of "the first place of honest officials" (2), and soon it was changed to the military department. Yang Lian is aboveboard and refuses to curry favor with the powerful. At that time, Zongshen had not seen courtiers for many years, and Zheng Guifei colluded with foreign officials to monopolize the harem, alienating Zongshen and Prince Zhu Changluo with ulterior motives. Yang Lian saw through Zheng Guifei's plot and was deeply worried about the future and fate of the prince. In his view, the prince is the foundation of a country, and the "national foundation" is chaotic. Therefore, he linked the prince's stable position with patriotism and loyalty, and firmly supported Prince Zhu Changluo. In the forty-eighth year of Wanli (1620), Zongshen was called to take medicated diet before he entered the palace. But because Zheng Guifei was in the way, the prince could not see his father. At the same time, Yang Lian secretly sent someone to tell Wang An, the capital of the Eastern Palace, to ask the prince to "invite him to wait on the waiter, taste the medicine and wait for the meal, and return it at dusk". Strive for opportunities to get close to Shenzong, so as to prevent Zheng Guifei from spreading the imperial edict falsely and confusing state affairs. At the same time, Yang Lian also urged Fang Congzhe, a university student, to lead officials to pay their respects at the Qing Palace to show the strength of courtiers. Fang Congzhe was afraid that Zheng Guifei would take it out on himself, so he tried to find an excuse and said, "The emperor is afraid of getting sick. Ask immediately, dare not pass it around. " Yang Lian immediately quoted the story of Lu Wengong, Minister of Hanoi in the Song Dynasty, and asked Fang Congzhe to lead hundreds of attendants to ask questions three times a day. "The first step in the palace is to know that courtiers are there and help themselves." Fang Congzhe inconvenience rush, had to. After Zongshen's death, Prince Zhu Changluo, who had suffered in the Qing Palace for forty years, finally ascended the throne for Guangzong. However, four days after he ascended the throne, the troubled emperor fell ill. At that time, there were rumors in the palace that Guangzong's illness was caused by eight beauties in Zheng Guifei, which led to Guangzong's physical wear and tear. He also instigated Cui Wensheng, a China official, to take laxatives, which made his condition worse. When Yang Lian heard these rumors, she was very worried about Guangzong. She was determined to eliminate Zheng Guifei's threat to Guangzong, so she contacted the courtiers and asked Zheng Guifei to move the palace and drive her out of Guangzong. On the other hand, Cui Wensheng's "intangible medication" was ignored, which also exposed Zheng Guifei's ambition to seal the Queen Mother. Yang Lian is sparse, his language is sharp and strong. Everyone is worried that Guangzong will be very unhappy. Nothing happened for three days, and I was about to breathe a sigh of relief when news came from the palace that the emperor would call his ministers tomorrow and announce that Yang Lian and the Royal Guards were officially studying. Courtiers know in their hearts that Xuanjinyiwei's official studies are generally to let him execute "imperial aides." Presumably, Yang Lian's phone call must be lucky. Fang Congzhe advised Yang Lian to plead guilty quickly, but Yang Lian insisted on not following, saying, "Death is death. What's the crime?" The next morning, the ministers entered Guangzong. Guangzong said weakly that everyone should perform their duties and be loyal to the court, so he turned to Yang Lian and stared at him for a long time without saying a word. Guangzong sighed and pointed to Yang Lian and said to everyone, "This is true loyalty." (1) issued a decree to expel Cui Wensheng, reclaim Zheng Guifei as the Queen Mother, and make Yang Lian the Minister of Life. Yang Lian was very grateful for Guangzong's trust, and from then on, she worked tirelessly for the court until death do us part. On the first day of September, Guangzong died. Li Xuan, his favorite concubine, wanted to learn from Zheng Guifei in those days, and prepared to hide Zhu Youxiao, Guangzong's eldest son, to "hold the son of heaven to make the princes". Foreign Minister Zhou Jiamo also claimed that the eldest son of the emperor had neither a first mother nor a biological mother, and he was lonely in Li. Shi was cruel and cunning. When Guangzong was in power, she was spoiled and arrogant and dominated the harem. It was she who killed the birth mother of the eldest son of the emperor. Later, when Guangzong was seriously ill, she colluded with Zheng Guifei, demanding that Zheng Guifei become the empress dowager and herself become the queen. Once Guangzong was annoyed by her, so he called several ministers to discuss and prepare her to be the imperial concubine. Unexpectedly, Li, who was eavesdropping behind the curtain, was not satisfied. He even held out his hand from behind the curtain and pulled in Zhu Youxiao, the eldest son standing next to Guangzong. He whispered and pushed him out. Kneel on the ground at once and ask my father to make Li queen. Such a violation of etiquette not only made the ministers present angry, but even Guangzong "changed color". If this ambitious woman holds the emperor's eldest son hostage, it will inevitably interfere in state affairs and disrupt the state system. Yang Lian and other honest courtiers are determined to take risks and turn the situation around. In the morning, Yang Lian and Zuo Guangdou urged courtiers, such as Fang Congzhe, Liu Yisui and Xie Han, to go to the Qing Palace together. As soon as we arrived at Ganqingmen, officials held the bar and refused to let us in. Yang Lian cursed: "Slave! The emperor told me to wait. I'm driving today. What should I do if Cao doesn't listen? " With that, he waved to stop the shooting, and all the courtiers swarmed in. When everyone had finished crying, they were secretly surprised to find that their eldest son, Zhu Youxiao, did not wake up in front of Guangzong's coffin. When asked about eunuchs, they all faltered and dared not answer. Yang Lian saw Wang Anyong, the confidant eunuch of Guangzong, gestured to Xinnuge with his eyes. Now I know, he turned around and whispered a few words to everyone. Everyone knelt down to the West NuanGe together, demanding to meet the Chu army, holding the stone and hiding in the West NuanGe. I've never seen anything like this. I've long been scared. Wang An immediately went in and pretended to persuade him that the eldest son of the emperor could send it back after seeing all the ministers. Say that finish, he took Zhu Youxiao to get married, and the ministers waiting outside hurriedly pushed Zhu Youxiao into the chariot that had already been prepared and escorted him out of the dry Qing Palace. Only then did Li return to absolute being, and hurriedly ordered the eunuchs around him to decline to receive a call. Eunuchs chased and dragged the sedan chair and shouted, "What's the point of pulling young master? The Lord is afraid of people. " Yang Lian was furious and shouted, "Who are you afraid of, Lord of Your Highness and Minister?" The eunuchs were scolded speechless, and then they walked away. Yang Lian and others carried Zhu Youxiao to Wenhua Hall, and then held the "East Palace" ceremony. And make an appointment at Gan Qing Palace on the 6th of this month. I was very angry when I saw the eldest son of the emperor being taken away, but the overall situation was decided. She decided to stay in the Qing Palace, so as to coerce Zhu Youxiao to let her be the Queen Mother. When the news came out, everyone was very angry. Li Xuan was invited to move to the palace. Shi sent eunuchs to the Qing palace to consult the prince, but they were stopped. He said seriously, "Your Highness used to be the prince of the East Palace, but now he is the emperor. What is the name of the servant? " Angry eyes forced the eunuch who came to take a message back. On the fifth day of September, seeing the ceremony of the Prince's accession to the throne approaching, Li was still trapped in the Qing Palace. Worried, he contacted the ministers to gather at the Tattoo Palace, and asked Fang Congzhe, a university student, to take the lead in asking Prince Li to move to the Palace. Fang Congzhe said disapprovingly, "It doesn't hurt to be late." Yang Lian argued: "Yesterday, the eldest son of the emperor was Taiku, and tomorrow he will be the son of heaven. Was it born in the womb to avoid imperial secretary? " At that time, it was suggested that Li was an old man of Guangzong and it was inappropriate to push him too hard. Yang Lian immediately reprimanded: "The ministers were taken care of by the first emperor. The first emperor should take care of his son first." And said, "You can kill me, otherwise, you will not move or die today." Other ministers also praised them, and all the words and colors were folded, which shocked the prince in the temple. The prince sent someone to dismiss the minister and retreat. Yang Lian still refused to accept it and continued to argue: "In the name of protecting Yang Tuo, don't move the palace." At the insistence of others, I had to send Li to the palace. Shi received the order, knowing that the defeat was decided, so he had to move out of the palace with tears in his eyes. The next day, Zhu Youxiao officially ascended the throne, namely Xizong, and changed it to the first year of the Apocalypse in the following year. It was only six days from the death of Guangzong to the accession of Xizong. Yang Lian worked almost every night to help the prince ascend the throne smoothly. According to historical records, within six days, "the hair must be white, and the emperor is also called a loyal minister." In the third year of the apocalypse (1623), Yang Lian was worshipped as the capital of Zuo Shu. The following year, he was promoted to vice capital suggestion. However, with the support of loyal ministers such as Yang Lian, the emperor who reached the peak did not get rid of the disadvantages of Wanli dynasty as Lin Dong hoped, but was more decadent, extravagant and incompetent. Eunuch Wei Zhongxian colluded with Xizong's nanny Hakka, monopolized the power in the palace and abused it wantonly. These evil officials also took refuge in Wei Zhongxian and formed a "eunuch party" to attack and expel Lindong party member. Yang Lian was filled with grief and indignation, and was determined to stand up and crusade against Wei Zhongxian. On June 1st, the fourth year of the Apocalypse (1624), Yang Lian hid the written recital in his arms, prepared to play the emperor in the morning, and exposed Wei Zhongxian on the spot. Unfortunately, on the same day, Yang Lian was granted an exemption from the DPRK. "He was afraid to stay at the airport again," so he had to give it to the emperor. Yang Lian listed 24 counts of Wei Zhongxian in the paper, exposing his crimes of persecuting former emperors and old ministers, interfering in state affairs, forcing the harem princess to death, manipulating the East Factory and abusing his power. Finally, she pointed out that the consequence of Wei Zhongxian's autocracy is "to Yi Ting, only knowing that there are loyal people, but not knowing your majesty;" Within the capital, I still know loyalty and righteousness, but I don't know your majesty. " Requiring the Sect to "make great efforts to govern, gather the glory of civil and military affairs, and make the punishment strict." Yang Lian's recitation was thunderous, hitting the key of Wei Zhongxian. Wei Zhongxian was terrified when he heard the news, and rushed to Xizong to cry out his grievances. He also asked the Hakkas to lobby and excuse themselves. The two echoed each other, making it difficult for Xizong to distinguish between true and false, regardless of good or bad. On the contrary, gentle words appeased Wei Zhongxian and "strictly took responsibility" for Yang Lian. From then on, Wei Zhongxian hated Yang Lian. In October of the fourth year of the Apocalypse (1624), Wei Zhongxian instructed Yang Lian to be "rude" and "no one is polite". Yang Lian was relieved of his post for the people. Squeezed out Yang Lian, Wei Zhongxian still refused to let go, and he was determined to put it to death. In the fifth year of the Apocalypse (1625), Wei Zhongxian ordered Xu Dahua, "Yandang", to disintegrate and Zuo Guangdou "classify and accept bribes", thus murdering others through the implementation of "Wang Wenyan's prison". Xu Xianchun, commander of Northern Town Royal Guards, was entrusted by Wei Zhongxian to torture Wang Wenyan, asking him to frame Yang Lian for taking bribes. Wang Wenyan would rather die than surrender and shouted to the sky, "Is there still greed for Yang Dahong in the world?" Xu Xianchun was helpless and had to fabricate a confession, framing Yang Lian and Zuo Guangdou for being bribed by Xiong Tingbi, the satrap of Liaodong. Wei Zhongxian immediately sent a security guard to arrest Yang Lian and others and return to Beijing for trial. In June, Yang Lian was arrested and escorted back to Beijing, and the people along the way heard the news, all of which were unfair to Yang Lian. They went to the villages and cities crying, "Know how to burn incense and make incense, and pray for survival." On June 28th, Yang Lian was sent to prison for trial by the town judge. Xu Xianchun used a lot of torture by the Royal Guard against Yang Lian, leaving him black and blue and dying. Later, when Yang Lian was arraigned, he was so tortured that he could neither sit nor stand. Xu Xianchun asked the mob to put Yang Lian in chains, drag him to the classroom and lie on the ground for trial. Yang Lian remained indomitable, wrote the "last stroke" in prison, continued to state the truth of the "case of moving the palace", and denounced the chaos in Wei Zhongxian. Wei Zhongxian was so angry that Xu Xianchun immediately killed Yang Lian. On the night of Gengshen in July, Xu Xianchun made Tiji ride a prisoner and executed Yang Lian. Before being executed, Yang Lian bit his finger and wrote a bloody book. I want to take my life back to the court, but I don't want my wife to cry! After writing, I went to the execution ground with a smile. When you die, it's terrible that "the soil bag is pressed down and the nail is driven in" (1). Loyalty to serve the country and vigorous castration run through Yang Lian's main political activities in his life. Historians' evaluation of his "integrity and honesty" is extremely pertinent. At the beginning of Chongzhen, Yang Lian's grievance was rehabilitated and presented to the Prince of the Ministry of War, Shangshu Taibao, and posthumous title's "loyalty". ① Chen Ding: Biography of Lin Dong, Volume III Biography of Yang Lian.
