Hunan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, located in Changsha City, Hunan Province, is a key undergraduate college in Hunan Province and the first university to recruit doctoral students, international students and students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
The school was founded in 1934 and named Hunan College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. 1960 was transformed into Hunan college of traditional Chinese medicine, and 1979 became the first batch of institutions in China to obtain the qualification of postgraduate education in traditional Chinese medicine.
1990 The former Hunan University of Science and Technology was merged into Hunan College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and it was merged into Hunan College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2002 (the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine resumed its independent establishment in 2022). In 2006, it was renamed Hunan University of Chinese Medicine with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

Dong Tang Campus, located in downtown area, is now a place where students from Xiangxing College and clinical senior students from other colleges study and live.
