It is the Nine Schools Alliance (C9), China University Presidents Association, Pacific Rim University Alliance, and a world event.

The school's predecessor was Qiushi College, which was founded in 1897. It is one of the earliest new institutions of higher learning founded by China people themselves. 1928 was named National Zhejiang University. 1937 Zhejiang university moved westward, running schools in Zunyi and Meitan, Guizhou, and 1946 moved back to Hangzhou in the autumn.
