1987- 1992 worked in the Institute of Economics of Zhejiang Academy of Social Sciences; 1992- 1998 studied in Kyoto university, Japan, and obtained a doctorate in economics;
At present, he is the executive director of the Center for Regional and Urban Economic Research of Zhejiang University, the head of the Department of Urban Development and Management of the School of Public Administration of Zhejiang University, a member of the Yangtze River Delta Regional Planning Comprehensive Group of the the State Council Development and Reform Commission, a member of the Expert Committee of the Yangtze River Delta Urban Economic Coordination Committee, a director of the China Industrial Economics Association, a deputy director of the Urban Management Committee of the China Regional Science Association, a member of the Hangzhou Municipal Government Decision Advisory Committee, and the head of the Yangtze River Delta Regional Planning "Industrial Development Orientation and Layout" project.
He has published more than 60 papers in academic magazines such as Economic Research, Managing the World, Industrial Economy of China, Annual Report on the Study of the Sea of Japan (Japan) and Modern Social and Cultural Studies (Japan). His monographs include: Economic Development in High-growth Areas of China-A Study of Jiangsu and Zhejiang Models, and Industrial Regional Transfer and East-West Expansion Strategy: Theoretical and Empirical Analysis.
