The school was founded in 1976, formerly known as "72 1" North Metallurgical Geology University of the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry. 1987, with the approval of the State Education Commission and under the auspices of the former Ministry of Metallurgical Industry, the whole system was merged into Northeast Institute of Technology and Qinhuangdao Branch of Northeast Institute of Technology was established. 1993 With the renaming of Northeastern University, it was renamed as Northeastern University Qinhuangdao Branch. 1996 Northeastern University reported to the Ministry of Metallurgy for approval. As a sub-project of Northeastern University's' 211project', the construction of Qinhuangdao Branch has entered the national key project of' 21/project'.
