Is it good or bad to be exposed to philosophy too early?
It is difficult to answer the question whether it is good to get in touch with philosophy too early. I can only speak from my own experience.

Four years ago, I came here with an admission notice from the Department of Philosophy of Peking University, and stepped into the door of philosophy with curiosity about the unknown and longing for the future.

When I entered philosophy, I knew nothing about philosophy. As teenagers, we came into contact with philosophy prematurely.

It is difficult to define what it is completely and clearly when you are exposed to philosophy and receive formal philosophy training at the undergraduate level. As far as I am concerned, this may mean that you should "read some of the greatest but useless books" when you are young, as Mr. Wu Zengding said. It means that you should seek inner stability under the leadership of teacher Yang Lihua and realize what Confucius said: "Old people are safe, friends are trustworthy, and few people are pregnant"; It means starting to reject blind obedience and doubt everything. As Shang Xinjian said, questioning is the spirit of enlightenment.

Today, four years later, I chose to leave. From philosophy department to law school.

Today is my sixth day in law school, but I remember that two months ago, at the graduation ceremony of philosophy department, Mr. Feng from Shanghai said softly, "xx, I entered law school."

I think, even if I leave the philosophy department, I will be grateful for the "abandoned" four years. It seems that I didn't study hard and practice hard, and I was a scum after four years. However, even if I had an epiphany when I carefully read the philosophical text in a rare time, or had an epiphany when I was listening to a lecture in class, or my heart sank when I passed by the podium surrounded by top student during class break, it is memorable to think about it now.

I am grateful that the pressure of philosophy course has made me read difficult texts that I may never read again and think about some seemingly useless problems that I may never encounter. I thank philosophy for letting me understand the spirit of eternal doubt.

The following is a speech by Li Meng, a teacher of philosophy department and head teacher of 20 10 undergraduate class, at the graduation ceremony of 20 10. When I was a sophomore, I had the honor to listen to it on the spot. The aggravated part was the answer given by the teacher.

? In fact, on the day you left the philosophy department of Peking University, philosophy was just beginning, just like life.

? Four years of youth, a lifetime of Peking University, an eternal philosophy.

Today, when I left the philosophy department of Peking University, philosophy has just begun, just like life.

Philosophy let me see the laws and principles of life prematurely, but the rich and substantial reality behind them will be left for the rest of my life to experience.
