Southwest University of Political Science and Law is located in Chongqing, a famous historical and cultural city and the only municipality directly under the central government in the central and western regions. It is the earliest institution of higher learning in politics and law in New China. After the reform and opening up, the first batch of key universities in the State Council, universities established by the Ministry of Education and the Chongqing Municipal People's Government, are the first batch of national excellent legal talents education and training bases.

Over the past 70 years, it has trained more than 300,000 talents at all levels for the country, making it the university with the largest number of legal talents in China. Eight alumni are members of the 19th Central Committee and the 19th Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, and 80 alumni hold leadership positions at or above the provincial and ministerial levels.
