The development trend of special education is to change from humanitarianism to rights and gradually develop on the same track as developed countries in the world. Special education is developing in the direction of specialization and standardization, which has enabled more and more disabled people to improve their cultural and scientific quality and enhance their productive capacity.

Special education is to educate special objects by using special methods, equipment and measures. There are many similarities between special education and general education. The general laws of general education are also applicable to special education, but special education also has its own special side.

Special education majors train high-level professionals with general education and special education knowledge and ability, who can mainly engage in special education practice, theoretical research and management in special education institutions and institutions related to special education.

Special education is aimed at special groups (including people with vision, hearing, language disability, physical disability, intellectual disability, mental disability and comprehensive disability). Special education is to use special methods and means to create special conditions and special equipment for special children's learning, behavior correction and training, so that they can master knowledge, make up for defects, cultivate their ability and physical and mental health.

The implementation of special education needs teachers, and the specialty of special education came into being. Professor Liu Quanli from the Department of Special Education, School of Special Education, Beijing Union University introduced that the so-called special education major refers to a secondary major under the pedagogy major set up by colleges and universities to train special education teachers. At present, China's special education specialty includes three levels: junior college, undergraduate course and graduate student.
