65438-0986, Zhao Lei was appointed by the State Sports Commission to study Russian at Beijing Foreign Studies University. Because of his outstanding performance, he has served as Russian interpreter for China sports delegations to visit Eastern European countries many times since then.

From 65438 to 0992, he went to Beijing Sport University to study English intensively for one year, and then he was able to talk fluently in English.

From 65438 to 0995, Zhao Lei participated in the formation of the national taekwondo team and founded the China Taekwondo Association. He has also become one of the key figures in the development of Taekwondo in China.

In August 2005, Zhao Lei was appointed as the deputy director of Boxing Taekwondo Sports Management Center of the State Sports General Administration.

Since then, Zhao Lei has served as the vice-chairman and secretary-general of China Taekwondo Association, deputy department level.

After enforcing the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, he became the first world-class referee to enforce taekwondo competitions for three consecutive Olympic Games.
