University of Tokyo 1877 was born. It was formed by the merger and reorganization of "Tokyo Kaicheng School" and "Tokyo Medical College" during the Meiji Restoration. At first, he managed four departments of science, science, literature and medicine and a pre-university school. It is the first national comprehensive university in Japan.
The University of Tokyo has no official so-called "school emblem". The pattern alternating with Huang Qing on the right is just a long-standing "symbol" of Tokyo University, which comes from the pattern drawn by Professor Masaichi Hoshino at the school board meeting in June of Showa's 23rd year. The pattern consists of two overlapping ginkgo leaves, one yellow and the other green. Ginkgo biloba is the most widely planted tree species on the campus of Tokyo University.
