Approved by the Ministry of Education, the Three Gorges University was formed on May 25th, 2000 by the merger of the former Wuhan Institute of Water Resources and Electric Power (Yichang) and the former Hubei Three Gorges University. The former Wuhan University of Hydraulic and Electric Power (Yichang) was formerly known as Gezhouba Hydropower Engineering College, which was established in 1978. It is subordinate to the Ministry of Water Resources and Electric Power, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Electric Power Industry and the State Power Company. 1996 merged with the former Wuhan University of Water Conservancy and Electric Power to form a new Wuhan University of Water Conservancy and Electric Power, which became an important part of "Project 2 1 1" to build a university.
The former Hubei Three Gorges College was formed by the merger of Yichang Normal College, Yichang Medical College and Yichang Vocational College on 1996.
School of Water Conservancy and Environment of China Three Gorges University started from 1978 Department of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Architecture of Gezhouba Hydropower Engineering College, and experienced the changes of the Department of Architecture of Wuhan University of Water Conservancy and Electric Power (Yichang) and the School of Civil and Hydropower Engineering of China Three Gorges University. 20 10 10 the three Gorges university was reorganized from four disciplines, namely, hydraulic engineering of the former hydropower institute, mechanics of the former hydropower institute, management science and engineering of the former school of economics and management, and environmental science and engineering of the former school of chemistry and life sciences.
The college consists of seven departments (centers), including the Department of Hydropower Engineering, the Department of Engineering Management, the Department of Agricultural Water Conservancy and Water Resources, the Department of Environmental Engineering, the Department of Engineering Mechanics, the Department of Port Waterway and Coastal Engineering, and the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Water Conservancy and Environment.
