Southwest Petroleum University began to train graduate students from 1978, and was approved by the State Council in 1 and became the first batch of universities with the right to confer master's degrees. 1986 was awarded the right to confer a master's degree. At present, there are 2 first-class doctorates, 7 two disciplines doctorates/kloc-0, and 7 first-class doctorates. There are 53 master's degree awarding points in 2 disciplines, 1 1 engineering fields for cultivating master's degrees, and 8 disciplines for cultivating college teachers to study for master's degrees on the job, forming a relatively complete degree authorization system. Postgraduate education in our school covers six disciplines: literature, economics, law, science, engineering and management, applied economics, Marxist theory, foreign languages and literature, mathematics, geology, mechanics, mechanical engineering, instrument science and technology, materials science and engineering, power engineering and engineering thermophysics, control science and engineering, computer science and technology, civil engineering, chemical engineering and technology, geological resources and geological engineering, and oil and gas engineering.

...... As of April 2009, the number of graduate students in the school reached 3,653, including 544 doctoral students, 2,248 full-time graduate students and 96/kloc-0 graduate students. Since 1978, 3,684 graduate students (including 544 doctoral students) have been trained. There are 32 in-station postdoctoral fellows and 33 out-station postdoctoral fellows. The graduate students trained by our school are widely praised by employers for their solid basic knowledge, reasonable knowledge structure, strong frontier consciousness, good professional characteristics and development personality, hard-working and down-to-earth work style. They play a key role in the oil and gas industry and Sichuan Province, serve the motherland and their alma mater with knowledge and wisdom, and make important contributions to the national oil industry and the scientific and technological, economic construction and social development of Sichuan Province, among which a number of outstanding scientists have emerged. At present, our school has 1 first-class national key disciplines, 3 two disciplines national key disciplines (oil and gas field development engineering, oil and gas well engineering, oil and gas storage and transportation engineering), 1 national key laboratory (oil and gas reservoir geology and development engineering), 7 provincial and ministerial key disciplines and 26 provincial and ministerial key laboratories, among which China Oil and Gas Well Completion Technology Center, aided by the United Nations and the Canadian government, 1990 with the approval of the Ministry of personnel, our school has established postdoctoral research mobile stations, and there are currently three postdoctoral research mobile stations (oil and gas engineering, geological resources and geological engineering, mechanical engineering).
