Peking University Environmental Science and Engineering College Department Center
Peking University is one of the earliest institutions in China to carry out environmental science teaching and research. Since 1970s, China has taken the lead in carrying out photochemical smog pollution in Lanzhou, environmental quality assessment in the western suburbs of Beijing and water quality research in Guanting Reservoir. According to the needs of discipline development, 1982 established Peking University Environmental Science Center to organize and coordinate the research and teaching of environmental science in Peking University. 1978 enrolled master students, 1985 set up a doctoral program in environmental chemistry (later changed to a doctoral program in environmental science). In 2000, it was authorized by the doctoral program of environmental science and engineering, and 200 1 was rated as a national key discipline. On June 8, 2002, Peking University Environmental Research Institute was established. In the process of departmental integration, the Department of Environmental Science was established on the basis of the Environmental Science Center and the Department of Environmental Chemistry of the Department of Technical Physics.

The faculty of the Department of Environmental Science is a young, highly educated, dynamic and reasonable discipline structure. There are 28 faculty members, among whom 55% are doctors, including 6 professors and 6 doctoral supervisors.

In terms of discipline construction, the Department of Environmental Science has given full play to the advantages of arts and sciences of Peking University and formed an environmental science framework with atmospheric environment, environmental management and sustainable development as its pillars. At present, there are research directions such as environmental chemistry, atmospheric environment, environmental management, sustainable development, environmental economics, environmental law, environmental engineering, environmental impact assessment, environmental ecology, water environment science and technology. There are master's programs in environmental science, doctoral programs and postdoctoral mobile stations, master's programs in atmospheric environment, master's programs in ecology and master's programs in environmental law. Its main features are as follows:

① In the field of atmospheric environmental science, it has a variety of research methods and the ability to conduct systematic research. It not only has complete field observation equipment and technology, but also has established the largest environmental wind tunnel and real-time online simulation device for atmospheric chemical reaction process in China, which can be used for atmospheric boundary layer physics and atmospheric environmental simulation, forming two distinctive disciplines: atmospheric environmental chemistry and atmospheric environmental simulation and control. A series of innovative theories and methods have been put forward in photochemical smog pollution, acid precipitation, fine particle pollution and ozone layer science, and a number of high-level atmospheric environmental science teaching and research talents have been trained. The depth and systematicness of atmospheric environment research has a priority position in similar disciplines in China, and it has won the first, second and third prizes of national scientific and technological progress for four times. Many research results have become the basis for scientific decision-making by national and local governments. Recently, China put forward the concept of compound air pollution for the first time, which aroused widespread concern and strong interest from international counterparts.

(2) Environmental Planning and Management Science, based on the cross-integration of management, planning, economics, law and sociology, organized the first comprehensive environmental planning study of Meizhou Bay New Economic and Technological Development Zone in China, and won the first prize of scientific and technological progress of the Ministry of Education. In addition, a series of national management-economic-technical studies have been carried out to protect the ozone layer. 1993 took the lead in establishing institutions in colleges and universities to carry out theoretical and practical research on sustainable development. This direction pays attention to the development of basic theories and methods of environmental management and decision support, and applies them to practice, and finally brings them into government macro-social, economic and environmental decision-making, enterprise micro-decision-making, and public personal behavior decision-making on environmental protection.

③ In the teaching and scientific research of environmental science, people-oriented, environment and health, and the health effects of environmental pollution have been adhered to, and a large number of epidemiological and environmental toxicology studies have been carried out, and remarkable results have been achieved. In 2000, Peking University and Beijing Medical University merged, which greatly strengthened the combination of environment and medicine. The establishment of environmental hormone/dioxin laboratory, a key project of Peking University 985, has promoted the related research on environment and health, formed the discipline direction of environmental medicine in Peking University, and is gradually improving.

④ Pay attention to applying the latest research results of environmental science to practice, directly serve the environmental management departments of national and local governments, and provide scientific basis for their environmental management decisions.

⑤ The extensive international cooperation network, unobstructed international cooperation channels and rich international cooperation experience are another important capital of the Department of Environmental Science. Frequent academic exchanges and cooperation with foreign experts and scholars have established a cooperative network for mutual exchange of information and common development, which can not only firmly grasp the forefront of international environmental theory research, but also actively participate in the solution of international environmental problems through the cooperative network.

The main courses offered by the Department of Environmental Science include atmospheric environmental chemistry, pollution meteorology, environmental mathematical methods, environmental planning, environmental management, environmental economics, environmental ecology, environmental data processing, environmental quality evaluation, environmental fluid mechanics, atmospheric detection and monitoring, modern measurement technology in environmental science, environmental engineering, system analysis and simulation, environmental hydraulics, water environment model, environmental information system, aerosol principle and technology, water supply and wastewater treatment principle, 37 courses, including global environmental problems, circulation and transformation of substances in the environment, prevention and control principles of air pollution, atmospheric chemistry simulation and model, and theoretical seminar on environment and sustainable development. In addition, the whole school offers general courses: introduction to civilization and environment, environmental protection and sustainable development, global environmental problems, introduction to environmental science, introduction to environmental system engineering and introduction to environmental materials. Several open courses are offered: Principles of Air Pollution Prevention and Control (Tsinghua University), Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology (Medical Department), Environmental Medicine (Medical Department), Modern Toxicology (Medical Department) and Health Risk Assessment and Management (Medical Department). Last year, new courses were: seminar on theory of environment and sustainable development, seminar on ecological aesthetics of traditional cities in China, seminar on circulation and transformation of substances in the environment, and seminar on comparative environmental politics.

On the future development road, the Department of Environmental Science will focus on five fields: environmental pollution chemistry, environmental management, environmental pollution control theory and technology, environmental biology, environment and development, focus on cultivating compound high-level talents needed by environment and development, adopt a development model of multi-disciplinary, multi-faceted opening and joint government and Industry-University-Research, and make the Department of Environmental Science a world-class environmental science department through continuous innovation and efforts. It has become a think tank for sustainable development and environmental decision-making in China and a base for environmental science and technology industrialization in China. Peking University Institute of Environmental Engineering was established in June 1995. As a pilot project of developing engineering science in Peking University, Peking University Institute of Environmental Engineering, relying on the advantages of the integration of environmental science and engineering disciplines, has obtained a doctorate and a master's degree in environmental engineering after several years of unremitting efforts. Peking University Institute of Environmental Engineering currently has more than 20 teachers and other full-time staff. Up to now, more than 50 people have been trained and are being trained 150.

Peking University Institute of Environmental Engineering is a teaching and research institution featuring the combination of science and technology. In recent years, Peking University has given full play to the comprehensive advantages of disciplines and achieved good results. He presided over the major project of National Natural Science Foundation "Study on Formation Mechanism and Prevention of River Sediment Disaster", China-EU scientific and technological cooperation project "Study on Regional Water Resources Sustainable Utilization Mode and Environmental Management Strategy" and China-Canada (CIDA) cooperation project "Study on Flood Control, Ecological Protection and Sustainable Development". Peking University Sub-laboratory of State Key Joint Laboratory of Environmental Simulation and Pollution Control is one of the four sub-laboratories of State Key Joint Laboratory of Environmental Simulation and Pollution Control, also known as "State Key Laboratory of Atmospheric Environment Simulation", supported by Peking University Institute of Environmental Science and Engineering. 1989 started construction, and 1995 passed the national acceptance and was officially listed as the national key laboratory. 200 1 The "State Key Laboratory of Atmospheric Environment Simulation-Shenzhen Sub-Laboratory" was established in Shenzhen Industry-University-Research Base, Peking University, Shenzhen. In the two evaluations in 2000 and 2005, good results were obtained.

After more than ten years of construction, the State Key Laboratory has formed two characteristic disciplines in the field of atmospheric environmental science: atmospheric environmental chemistry and atmospheric environmental simulation and control. Among them, atmospheric environmental chemistry is a field close to the international advanced level in Peking University. He put forward a series of innovative theories and methods in photochemical smog, acid rain and ozone layer science, and won the first, second and third prizes of national scientific and technological progress and the He Li Science and Technology Award. According to the international environmental convention for the protection of the ozone layer, the elimination mechanism of ozone-depleting substances has been formulated and adopted by the United Nations Environment Programme. The related work won about 400 million US dollars for the country, and won the special gold medal of the National Ozone Layer Protection Award of the State Environmental Protection Administration of China in 2004 and the Ozone Layer Protection Award of the National Environmental Protection Agency of the United States in 2005. In 2005, Academician Tang Xiaoyan won the contribution award of the United Nations Environment Programme and the World Meteorological Organization to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Vienna Convention. In recent years, a series of studies have been carried out on air fine particle pollution and urban area pollution control, and the concept of "air compound pollution" has been put forward for the first time, which has aroused widespread concern and strong interest of international counterparts. The in-depth study of this problem has important guiding significance for solving the air pollution problem in China, and also greatly enriches the theory of atmospheric environmental chemistry.

The State Key Laboratory attaches great importance to the capacity building of infrastructure. With the support of 985 and "2 1 1" fund, a research platform of atmospheric chemistry and atmospheric environment based on field measurement, laboratory simulation and numerical model has been formed. It has advanced real-time online observation technology in the field, and has unique means such as atmospheric chemical reaction simulation, wind tunnel simulation of atmospheric boundary layer physical process, and micro-meteorological measurement of ground-air exchange flux of trace substances. Equipped with Anson high-flow sampler, four-channel particle sampler, multi-stage impact sampler MOUDI, steam jet aerosol sampler (SJAC), aerosol particle spectrometer, visibility meter, carbon black analyzer and other aerosol sampling equipment and analytical instruments, as well as laboratory analytical instruments such as GC-MS, HPLC, GC, capillary electrophoresis, ion chromatography and sunset EC/OC analyzer. There are atmospheric trace gases field monitors related to aerosols, such as nitrogen oxides, SO2, CO, CO2, O3, pan, etc. There is a miniature meteorological flux meter. There are FTIR, drift and so on. Carry out research on reaction kinetics. Through the research of "863" project, advanced sampling and source spectrum analysis methods of stationary and mobile sources have been established, and technologies such as wet stripping agent, online VOC and particulate chemical composition online measurement technology have been independently developed, and two "985" research platforms, namely "atmospheric environment and global change" and "environment and health", have been established, and urban and regional atmospheric environmental observation stations have been established in Peking University and Hebei dams respectively to continuously measure gaseous and particulate pollutants for a long time. There are two mobile observation container laboratories and mobile observation vehicles for environmental and health research. With the construction of 985 platform, further development and improvement of online monitoring means and database management including atmospheric components and meteorological factors will promote the frontier development of atmospheric science and provide more accurate scientific support for national decision-making.

The State Key Laboratory of Environmental Simulation and Pollution Control has carried out a series of studies on the formation process and control of air pollution in urban agglomerations in view of the atmospheric environmental problems brought about by rapid urbanization in China. It undertakes five of the three 973 projects, namely, the change law and regulation principle of soil and atmospheric environment quality in the Yangtze River and Pearl River Delta, the basic research on the formation and control technology of inhalable particles from combustion sources, the precipitation mechanism, transmission situation and regulation principle of acid rain in China, and the integrated demonstration of the 863 project, the analysis technology of atmospheric pollution sources and the comprehensive prevention and control technology of atmospheric composite pollution in key urban agglomerations in the Eleventh Five-Year Plan. As well as the international cooperation research on global climate change and atmospheric environment problems in megacities in EU Framework 6 and Framework 7, as the technical lead unit, it undertook the important project of the air quality assurance plan during the Beijing Olympic Games, "Transport and transformation of air pollutants in Beijing and its surrounding areas and research on Beijing air quality objectives". In the past five years, the expenditure on scientific research in the school is about 35 million yuan, which plays a key role in major national scientific research projects and provides important decision support for air pollution control in Beijing, North China and the Pearl River Delta.

Based on the principle of "openness, mobility, union and competition", key laboratories actively promote interdisciplinary research and create a strong atmosphere of unity, cooperation and academic innovation. Absorb researchers who are interested in developing environmental science and technology, have a solid theoretical foundation and innovative spirit, and build an academic team with strong enterprising spirit, high academic level, good at innovation and structural optimization. The age structure of laboratory researchers is a combination of young and old. Among them, academician of China Academy of Engineering 1 person, distinguished professor from the Yangtze River of the Ministry of Education, winner of the National Outstanding Youth Fund 1 person, and three winners of the Cross-century and New Century Excellent Talents Program Fund of the Ministry of Education. The average age of this team is 4 1 year, 72% of the teachers have doctoral degrees, and 50% of the teachers have more than one year of overseas study experience. The State Key Laboratory has long-term and extensive academic exchanges and cooperation with first-class universities and research institutions in the European Union, the United States, Canada, Japan, Taiwan Province Province and Hongkong, grasps the latest development trends of atmospheric chemistry, and puts forward cutting-edge scientific issues, research ideas and decision support according to the actual situation of China's social development.

Environmental science is a developing multidisciplinary comprehensive science and technology field. In view of the global and regional characteristics of environmental problems, key laboratories aim at the forefront of environmental science and technology in the world and study major environmental problems that need to be solved urgently based on the national conditions of China. Through the integration of interdisciplinary and technology, it provides a scientific basis for the development of environmental science. The main research direction of Peking University State Key Joint Laboratory of Environmental Simulation and Pollution Control is to use advanced science and technology to study major environmental problems, support the development of high-tech pollution control technology with basic research and applied basic research, give full play to joint advantages, promote the progress of environmental science and technology, strengthen environmental protection in China and implement the strategy of sustainable development.

Peking University State Joint Key Laboratory of Environmental Simulation and Pollution Control will optimize its management and form an efficient and stable laboratory management and technical support system. The Key Laboratory of Water and Sediment Science of the Ministry of Education was established in August 2000. Facing the major national water and sediment environmental problems, the laboratory has undertaken a series of major national scientific research tasks with the help of Peking University's multidisciplinary advantages, carried out fruitful international cooperation, and formed research characteristics of combining science with engineering, combining basic theory with engineering application, and combining water science with environmental engineering.

The laboratory has formed a young academic team, including winners of the Outstanding Youth Fund, scholars of the Hundred Talents Program, trans-century talents of the Ministry of Education, and rising stars of science and technology in Beijing. From 2005 to 2009, he undertook more than 70 scientific research projects with a total funding of more than 40 million yuan. From 2005 to 2009, the laboratory undertook 8 international cooperation projects, including CIDA project between China and Canada, China-EU environmental management cooperation plan and SCP project of UN-Habitat. Received 20 foreign visiting scholars.
