East China University of Science and Technology, formerly known as East China Institute of Chemical Technology, was founded in 1952 by the Department of Chemical Engineering of Jiaotong University, Aurora University, Datong University, Soochow University and Jiangnan University. 1960 was identified as a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, and 1993 was renamed East China University of Science and Technology; 1996 became the national "2 1 1 project" key construction university.
