Guangzhou University is a comprehensive university named after Guangzhou, an important national central city. It merged in 2000 and has a tradition of running schools for more than 90 years. It is a key university in Guangdong Province and a high-level university in Guangzhou.

At present, the University Town, Guihuagang and Huangpu Research Institute/Graduate School are "one school and three parks", with 30,250 full-time undergraduates and 695 master students and doctoral students1person.

The school has a complete range of disciplines and strong comprehensiveness. It has 24 professional colleges, covering ten disciplines such as philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, management and art. At present, it has 10 first-class discipline doctoral authorization points and doctoral professional degree authorization points, 4 postdoctoral research mobile stations, 36 academic master's degree authorization points and 27 master's degree authorization points.

Dominant disciplines:

At present, a key construction discipline system driven by four dominant discipline groups, namely, civil engineering discipline group, information discipline group, digital economy and management discipline group and material science and equipment manufacturing discipline group, has been formed. Six provincial high-level universities have built "first-class" key construction disciplines, 14 provincial key disciplines, 16 municipal key disciplines and key supporting disciplines.

Six disciplines, including engineering, computer science, chemistry, materials science, environment/ecology, and social science, entered the top of ESI 1%, among which engineering and computer science entered the top 5‰.
