In 2000, the experimental center of basic biology teaching was moved to the new campus, covering an area of nearly 3,000 square meters. The herbarium of Sichuan University was founded in 1935 by Professor Qian, a pioneer botanist in our library, and later developed by Professor Fang Wenpei, a world-famous botanist, with a history of more than 60 years. After decades of on-the-spot investigation by botanists in our school and specimen exchange between libraries at home and abroad, our library now has more than 500,000 kinds of plant specimens. This museum has very obvious regional characteristics, and the collection of specimens has been concentrated in the southwest for a long time, especially including the Hengduan Mountains, which is of great significance in animal evolution and species formation. It has important reference value for studying species formation, flora evolution, biodiversity and the protection and utilization of animal resources. The laboratory focuses on the scientific and technological problems encountered in the western region, such as rampant biological disasters, deterioration of ecological environment, a large number of biological resources on the verge of extinction, low production level, food safety crisis and so on. According to the unique historical, geographical and technological advantages of Sichuan University and its School of Life, the laboratory takes resource biology and controlling biological disasters ("disaster control"), protecting biological resources, protecting ecological environment, protecting human health and food safety ("three guarantees") as its main research fields.
