Hunan University has a long history and excellent educational tradition. It is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, a national "2 1 1 Project" and "985 Project" key construction university, and a national "world-class university".

The school has a graduate school and 25 colleges, with disciplines and specialties covering philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, management, medicine, art and so on 1 1 categories.

At present, nine disciplines, including chemistry, engineering, materials science, physics, biology and biochemistry, environmental ecology, computer science, mathematics and social science, rank in the top of ESI 1 ‰, among which engineering and chemistry rank in the top 1‰, seven disciplines are selected as national defense characteristic disciplines, and chemical and mechanical engineering disciplines have entered the ranks of "world-class construction disciplines" of the Ministry of Education.

Hunan University, referred to as "Huda", is located in Changsha City, Hunan Province. It is the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Hunan Provincial People's Government, and the National Defense Science and Technology.

Selected in "Strong Foundation Plan", "Everest Plan", "20 1 1 plan", "11plan", education and training plan for outstanding engineers, education and training plan for outstanding legal talents, public postgraduate plan for national construction of high-level universities, and national new-type projects.

It is a national demonstration university for deepening the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education, a base for the transformation and technology transfer of scientific and technological achievements in colleges and universities, a national intellectual property demonstration university, a national cultural quality education base for college students, and a scholarship receiving institution of the China Municipal Government for overseas students. He is a member of the BRICS University Alliance and the "Yangtze River-Volga River" University Alliance.
