Northwest A&F University (Northwest A&; F University), referred to as Xinong or Northwest Agricultural University, is located in Yangling Demonstration Zone, Shaanxi Province. It is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC), a vice-ministerial institution directly under the central government, and a national "double-class" construction university.
The "985 Project" and "2 1 1 Project" focused on the construction of colleges and universities, and were selected into the National Strong Foundation Plan, "11Plan" and "201Plan".
A national model university for deepening the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education, a scholarship receiving institution of China government for overseas students in China, a national innovative experimental program for college students, and one of the 40 key universities in the "discipline construction plan for aiding Xinjiang" of the Ministry of Education.
It is jointly built by the Ministry of Education, China Academy of Sciences, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Water Resources, State Forestry Administration and Shaanxi Province. It is the birthplace of modern higher agricultural education in northwest China and the most complete agricultural college in China, with the wine specialty ranking first in the country.
The school's predecessor was the National Northwest Agricultural and Forestry College, which was founded in 1934. 1September, 1999, with the approval of the State Council, it was established in Northwest Agricultural University, Northwest Forestry College and Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Ministry of Water Resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Seven scientific and educational institutions, including Northwest Institute of Water Conservancy, Shaanxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Shaanxi Academy of Forestry and Northwest Institute of Botany of China Academy of Sciences, merged to form Northwest A&F University.
As of March 2023, the school covers an area of 5,657 mu, with graduate schools, 28 colleges (departments and institutes) and 77 undergraduate majors.
