The discipline of Refrigeration and Cryogenic Engineering of Zhejiang University, relying on the Institute of Refrigeration and Cryogenic Research, was founded in 1958 as the predecessor of Cryogenic Research Group of Zhejiang University, and it is one of the earliest cryonics engineering majors in Chinese universities. This major 1960 began to train undergraduates, 1978 began to train postgraduates, and 1998 was approved by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee as a doctoral degree authorization point and postdoctoral mobile station. In 2003, it was awarded as a key discipline in Zhejiang Province and a national key discipline in 2007.
