The National Open University, founded in 1978, is a unit directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC) and an institution of higher learning with adult education qualification approved by the Ministry of Education. As of June, 2022, the National Open University consists of 1 headquarters, 45 branch schools and 3,735 learning centers.

The National Open University has four campuses, namely Wukesong, Fuxingmen, Gong Wei Village and Daxing Weishanzhuang, with a total area of more than 200 mu and a building area of10.3 million square meters.
