City University of Hong Kong (hereinafter referred to as City U) is a public research university located in Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong. It is one of the eight institutions of higher learning funded by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, listed as a national key university by the Ministry of Education, and a member of the Sino-Russian Alliance of Engineering Universities. The school was formerly the City Polytechnic of Hong Kong, established in Mong Kok, Kowloon, 1984. On 1995, it obtained the qualification of self-assessment by the government and changed its name to City University of Hong Kong. 1997, Kowloon Bay Branch was established in the former site of Wellington Middle School.
