Xi City: Looking for hejia village Pit Site in Tang Dynasty
1970 10 10 On 5 October, a pottery urn and a silver jar were found near hejia village in the southern suburbs of Xi 'an, which were filled with precious cultural relics such as gold and silver vessels of the Tang Dynasty. 10 June 10 June, after archaeological exploration, another pottery urn was found, which also contained a large number of cultural relics from the Tang Dynasty. Two clay pots and a silver pot were buried in the same pit. Because they were found next to hejia village, they were called "hejia village Pit".

On the afternoon of September 8th, 2020, I attended training in Xi 'an and rode to hejia village. According to the location described by Wu Zhenfeng in the Documentary Excavation of Tang Dynasty Sites in hejia village, the hejia village cellar site is located at No.2 Hydrological Lane, Youyi West Road, Xi City. At that time, it was the reception station of the Public Security Bureau and later became the seat of the National Security Department of Shaanxi Province.

Hydrological lane is L-shaped, starting from Youyi West Road in the north and ending at Taibai North Road in the west. It is about 300 meters long from north to south and 400 meters long from east to west. Because the Shaanxi Provincial Hydrological Bureau used to be here, this road is called "Hydrological Lane".

According to today's map, I arrived at Hydrological Lane smoothly. The road is relatively narrow, about 30 meters wide. Both sides are shaded by trees, and the surrounding buildings are dense. Most of them are residential buildings built around the 1990s.

Next, I began to look for No.2 Hydrological Lane, but I couldn't see it in Shaanxi Provincial Department of National Security. I ran back and forth in Hydrological Lane twice and found Hydrological LaneNo. 1 and No.5, which are Qinhailou of Northwest Nonferrous Geological Exploration Bureau and Geophysical Exploration Corps respectively. However, I didn't see Hydrological Lane 2 at all. Ask the locals, I don't know!

The writing group of the Revolutionary Committee of the Cultural Management Committee of Shaanxi Provincial Museum attached a recovery map of drilling in xinghua Square in Chang 'an City of Tang Dynasty to the article "Discovery of Tang Dynasty Cellar Cultural Relics in hejia village in the Southern Suburb of Xi City", marking the specific location and surrounding environment of hejia village Cellar Site.

At that time, hejia village hoard site was located at the corner of Hydrological Lane, adjacent to a primary school campus in the west, Shaanxi Provincial Health School in the east, Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital in the northeast and xi 'an Bayi Primary School in the northwest. Today, the former primary school campus has become a branch of the South University Road Primary School, the former Shaanxi Provincial Health School has become xi 'an Medical College, the former Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital is still in its original place, and the former xi 'an Bayi Primary School has become Xi 'an No.82 Middle School.

Therefore, the hejia village hoard site should be located between the present University South Road Primary School and Xi 'an Medical College. Today, this is the outreach hotel, with five floors, facing south and elegant environment. At that time, it was found that the pit of two pottery pots and a silver pot had disappeared under the building of the outreach hotel!

Located in Xinghua Square of Chang 'an in Tang Dynasty, the third row in the south of Huangcheng and the second row in the west of Zhuque Street. After archaeological exploration, in Xinghua Square, only east-west streets were found, but no north-south streets were found.

Hejia village hoard site is 268 meters away from the north-south street outside the square in the west, 402 meters away from the north-south street outside the square in the east and 55 meters away from the east-west street inside the square in the north. According to the records of Xinzhi in Beijing, this place is located in Tai. Some people think that this is the residence of Serina Liu, a hired servant, according to the records in the Textual Research of Tang Dynasty.

The cellar in hejia village was discovered in 1970s, when the archaeological work in China was very limited. It was an accidental "treasure-digging" archaeological discovery, which did not conform to the current Regulations on Field Archaeology. Although a large number of gold and silver objects dazzled us, we didn't know about the surrounding relics, which caused irreparable losses to the later research work.

Today, the former hejia village and Tangrenkeng sites have disappeared in the bustling cities, leaving only some related place names: West hejia village, Xinghua Lane, hejia village Primary School and so on.
