China Ocean University, located in Qingdao, Shandong Province, is a comprehensive national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC), a new engineering research and practice project, an institution for overseas students to receive scholarships from the China government, a member of China-Europe elite university alliance, International Antarctic College and International Maritime University alliance, and the first batch of doctoral and master's degree awarding units in China.

The school was established on March 2005 1959 on the basis of the departments of oceanography, fisheries, geology and biology. 1960 was identified by the state as one of the national 13 key comprehensive universities, and was renamed China Ocean University in 2002.

Qingdao University, referred to as Qingdao University for short, is located in Qingdao, Shandong Province.
