Ningbo University, located in the sub-provincial city of Ningbo, is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Education, Zhejiang Province, the State Oceanic Administration and Ningbo City. It is the first batch of key construction universities in Zhejiang Province, the national "double first-class" world-class discipline construction universities, the first batch of key construction universities in Zhejiang Province, and the first batch of demonstration universities in China to deepen the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education.

Ningbo University was founded on 1986 with a donation from Bao Yugang, and Deng Xiaoping wrote the name of the university. At the beginning of the school, Zhejiang University, Fudan University, China University of Science and Technology, Peking University and the former Hangzhou University built it. 1996, the former Ningbo University, Ningbo Normal University and Ningbo Branch of Zhejiang Fisheries College merged to form a new Ningbo University.
