The Music Department has 6 teaching and research sections (vocal music, piano, folk music, instrumental music, theoretical composition and dance) with 54 teachers, including professors 10 and associate professors 12. External professors include Zheng Xiaoying, conductor, band leader, and Bao Yuankai, chief composer of Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra.

Musicology (music education) major mainly trains compound music teachers and professionals engaged in music teachers, propaganda departments, cultural departments, enterprises and institutions. In 2006, the direction of art management (musicology) was especially increased.

Music education offers courses: politics, literature, philosophy, foreign languages, physical education, pedagogy, basic music theory, solfeggio, body dance, keyboard music, folk music, western music, chorus conductor, harmony, polyphony, improvisation, small band arrangement, song analysis and writing, modern music, music appreciation, analysis of forms and works, introduction to national music and music history of China.

There are seven major directions for music performance. The undergraduate majors recruited from all over the country are: vocal music, keyboard, national instrumental performance, western orchestral performance, theoretical composition and dance.

Music performance courses: theory major, composition major, vocal music major, folk music major, western music major, keyboard major, stage performance art, and other courses are the same as musicology courses.
